Including a graphical X enviroment in this tutorial
- If, like me, you are interested on the ubuntu server original installation, and then adding a X enviroment on top of it (and not a original ubuntu desktop install for any reason), i suggest that after the "aptitude full-upgrade" step, you perform a "apt-get install xubuntu-desktop" and NOT a "apt-get install ubuntu-desktop"; in first place, because xubuntu-desktop uses XFCE, that is lighter and more appropriate to a server install in my point of view, and secondly because installing the ubuntu-desktop (not xubuntu) makes changes to the kernel (uses a newer kernel), so you end up with 2 kernel options on boot menu, and that may lead to future difficulties); you may then wish to run "aptitude full-upgrade" again before continuing the tutorial;

- Guide followed/worked correctly on a intel dg31pr mobo, cpu core2quad q6600, 2mb ram; without the need to change/adapt shared memory; (this step was skipped)

- I also was able to follow this guide and it worked perfectly on my VM.
exceptions found during the guide implementation and workarounds
- After installing the ubuntu server itself, and prior to any zoneminder installation, it is already possible to observe that the syslog may report problems regarding "console-kit-dae segfaults", and memory exceptions related to that; it is described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/consolekit/+bug/347288 ; however, after upgrading ubuntu as suggested in the article (aptitude full-upgrade) those errors seemed to be fixed; (what makes me conclude it´s an ubuntu bug, not a zm bug)

- Problems with APACHE hanging, as I have experienced, are discussed in http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13322
