The following additional info would have saved me days of confusion on the Ubuntu 10.04 installation. I suggest that it be added under trouleshooting:

Refer to the section "Configure the bttv kernel module" in the Ubuntu 9.04 installation instructions. The file /etc/modprobe.conf which is mentioned extensively in the forums and is the key to solving capture card compatability problems is not used in the Ubuntu installation, but /etc/modprobe.d/bttv.conf is used in its place. Create it as root as per those instructions for the Ubuntu 9.04 installation instructions.
